4. BUSINESS OF TRAIN OPERATIONS
4.1 Passenger Operations
• During the year, 46 pairs of Mail/Express trains and 9 pairs of passenger trains were run
per day over Konkan Railway single line system. Weekly AC Double Decker Night service
T. No. 11099/11100 between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus & Madagaon and New T. No.
16595/16596 Yesvantpur-Karwar-Yesvantpur Daily Express via NMGA, SBGA, PADL Bye-
pass was introduced during the year.
• In addition to this, 524 Nos of Holiday special trains were run during Summer, Winter
Holidays and during Ganpati festival to clear extra rush of passengers in the year of 2019-
20. Besides this 238 Nos of other special trains were run during the year including Pooja,
Diwali, Holi, Velankanni special, Week end special, FTR special, Deccan Odyssey etc.
• During the year 2019-20, KR has earned total earning of ` 687.68 Crore compared to
`695.10 Crore in the previous year which is 1.06% less than the previous year.
• Up to end of Feb-20, the coaching earning was ` 672.78 Crore compared to ` 632.15
Crore which was 6.42% more than the corresponding period in the previous year.
However, in the month of March-20, the earning was dropped to ` 14.9 Crore compared
to ` 62.95 Crore in March-19 due to heavy refund on cancellation of trains on account of
Covid-19 pandemic, making impact on overall coaching earnings of FY 2019-20.
4.2 Freight Operations
• During the year, on an average 12 freight trains per day including “Roll-On Roll Off”
services were run on Konkan Railway.
• The unique concept of RORO services introduced over Konkan Railway in January 1999
has completed 21 years of its successful run. Since the introduction of the services about
6.25 lakh trucks are transported through RORO system. Roll “ON”-Roll “OFF” service
has saved precious fuel and played vital role in controlling pollution.
• Apportioned Earnings: During the year 2019-20, KR has earned total apportioned
earning of ` 436.10 Crore compared to ` 560.94 Crore in the previous year. The reduction
in cross trafc like foodgrains, fertilisers as well as inward coal trafc for UPCL siding
impacted the apportioned earnings of KRCL substantially.
• Originating Earnings: Though reduction of 22.2% has been registered in the overall
trafc, KR has registered growth of 21.9% in the originating earnings. The overall
originating freight earnings during the year summed up to ` 194.84 Crore compared to `
159.8 Crore in the previous year.
