INTER-HOUSE Parliamentary debate COMPETITION
The first edition of a British Parliamentary debate, The Interhouse
Parliamentary Debate competition differed from the
conventional Oxford style debate in the procedural flow, by
integrating the aspects of team work and extemporary rebuttal
into it. While the concept of the proposition and opposition to the
motion was kept intact, the participants were required to split the
postulates amongst a team of four, each with distinct roles to
play. All in all, it was a new-fangled form of a debate, and coupled
with the ethos of the online platform, it successfully honed the
critical thinking and analytical skills of all participants, despite
being apart.
