Volunteering is a popular activity across the country and many people
volunteer for different reasons.
Formal Volunteering - giving unpaid help through groups, clubs or
organisations to benefit other people or the environment.
Informal Volunteering – giving unpaid help as an individual to people
who are not a relative/ for a friend/ a neighbour/ an isolated person.
What it means to be a volunteer
Giving your time, skills and knowledge, without pay, for the benefit of
others, the local community and very importantly yourself!
Volunteering is usually done with voluntary and statutory organisations
and at events. Organisation’s that are not for profit, they do not make
money out of the time you give them.
You give your time, but you can gain a lot from volunteering - you can
learn new skills, build confidence, make new friends, simply take pleasure
in being a part of something or supporting a cause that you believe in.
Being an Event Volunteer means representing your borough, helping
people get the most out of borough events, showing off Greenwich’s
culture and diversity and enhancing customer’s experiences.
