With the re-entry of various CPG companies into alcohol, questions around the blurring of categories have only
increased. As many of these companies leverage the brand equity of their traditionally non-alcoholic products, the
premium on responsible marketing and distribution will also increase. Additionally, state regulators will be tasked with
assessing a broad array of corporate structures, partnerships, and joint ventures to ensure compliance with state law and
maintain the independence of each tier. In this session, regulators and industry veterans will discuss how policy makers
and private companies can maintain their responsibility and compliance obligations in an era of rapid change.

efficiency which impacts product availability and assortment. With changing demographics, taste preferences, and so
many new product offerings, it can be difficult to see what may be on the horizon. Join us to hear about the forecasting
component which was recently added to the Iowa Scorecard to help with the demand of the marketplace and maximize
revenues while adequately serving the customer.

What Does Media Relations Look Like Today and in the Future Bob & Dolores Hope - Mezzanine Level

Speakers: EJ Powers - New Hampshire Liquor Commission
Michelle Schmitt, MPA - Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services

Good media relations brings credibility to your organization, it allows you to reach audiences that you might not already
have access to, it provides a means to share your story and helps you manage a situation in the event of a crisis. Before
social media became the norm, building beneficial relationships with media meant connecting with reporters who were
more local, more personal and delineated between print (newspapers or magazines) and broadcast (radio or television).
Nowadays, with the smartphone as today’s “first screen”, the rise of social media and the decrease in the number of local
media outlets, the opportunities for having these relationships are indeed…different. The panelists for this presentation
will talk about their experience in developing effective relationships with media professionals in today’s environment.
