               Young Activist: Virtual Painting Party

On August 29 , Senior Teens hosted ‘Black Lives Matter’ Activist Virtual Painting Party in the
comforts of their homes. The teens had a lively and engaging discussion on the social unrest and
systemic racism that is impacting Black lives which was moderated by Teen President, Sydney
Wilson. Our special guest, Nathan Jones, a Jack and Jill alum, has a career is dedicated to
investing in equitable systems for people of color and he is cofounder of a micro fund in Atlanta
for the underserved community. Nate provided his perspective as a young Black DJ,
Entrepreneur and Activist on how music reflects what’s going on in the world. Nate also shared
the impacts of racism in the workplace and society and how he handles those situations when
encountered. Following ‘The Black Lives Matter’ discussion an African American artist from
Kinfolks Studios guided the teens in painting their BLM masterpieces. We fulfilled the
following objectives with this event a) give the teens an opportunity to explore their thoughts and
expression in the midst of social unrest protests, pandemic, and faltering economy during an
election year and b)give the teens an opportunity to have fun and socially engage virtually with
their peers while creating a BLM canvas painting that recorded history and c) educated the teens
on the safe use of social media while hosting the party on Facebook live.
