Civic/Legislative Advocacy
Each of the North Texas Chapter grade groups have successfully incorporated the
Civic/Legislative Advocacy into their programming calendars.
The Great Debate/Rock the Vote

On October 24 , 2020 The Spurs and Chili Peppers will learn about the different responsibilities
of the local, state and federal government. There will be interactive activities and games played
throughout the zoom call to test their knowledge on "who takes care of what". The kids will then
be tasked with debating topics that are relevant to them including the following: All kids should
have a bedtime, Homework should be banned, and Kids deserve an allowance. Each kid will
spend time researching and participating in a head to head debate and rebuttal. After each debate
there will be a mock vote on the issue. The kids will learn how government works and how to
research, debate and vote on issues important to them.
Voting PSA: Weighing in on What Matters
The Mavericks and Junior Teens will create a “Rock the Vote” PSA to stress the importance of
voting and making your voice heard. Each child will answer the following questions on video:
Why is the right to vote important to you? What qualities do you think our next president should
have? If you could convince one person to vote, what would you say? The teens will edit and

produce the video PSA. The Teens will host a PSA unveiling party on October 24 , 2020 to
display their work. Don, Calloway, a former state representative, JLL legacy, current political
strategist and tv commentator will make a guest appearance at the unveiling to discuss the
importance and value of our youth in elections. Our children will learn about the importance of
voting and utilize their public speaking skills to encourage others to do so.
Election Night Watch Party & Pandemic Voices Archive
The Senior teens will gather for a virtual watch party as the 2020 election results come in. There
will be election night trivia and bingo games to continually educate the teens on the importance
of the issues.
Before and after the election party the teens will provide an oral history submission for a project
called "Pandemic Voices Archive" which will be housed at Texas Woman's University. This
will give a=our teens a voice during this historic election and cement their thoughts and feelings
in history.
