Page 28 - How Changing Your Anger Can Help You Be a Better Parent book
P. 28
Realizing and understanding that your angry thoughts that are quickly triggered by your emotional
reaction are not the result of your clear-thinking.
You can empower yourself to take control of these thoughts very quickly, which is necessary
because that emotion takes over in less than a second.
Once you begin to become angry, there's very limited and precious space to be able to control
your thoughts, rather than your thoughts controlling you.
The angrier you become, the more distorted your thoughts will be.
It's best to change your angry thinking patterns early - like when you feel your body sensations
changing due to your emotional flooding.
There are lots of healthy anger tools that can help you quickly change your angry thinking. There
are things you can do for your brain and body to be able to change your distorted thoughts and
stop the trigger thoughts.
Your angry thinking impacts the constant chemical bath happening in your brain. Your
neurochemical release changes when you get angry.
When you get angry your brain works to calm you down. Neurochemicals like cortisol and others
are released as anti-stress hormones. You have the power to change this chemical release by
changing your angry thinking.
Changing your neurochemistry will help you feel calmer and provide you with clearer thinking.
