Magnification

When you’re angry at your kids do you tend to say to yourself:

You’re doing this to annoy me.

            This behavior is intolerable.

You’ve gone too far this time.

            You never listen.

How dare you look at (or talk to) me like that.

You turn everything into a fight (or power struggle).

           Labeling

When you’re angry at your kids do you tend to say to yourself:

            You’re getting out-of-control.

            You’re manipulating me.

You’re so lazy (or malicious, stubborn, disrespectful, ungrateful, etc.)

            You’re deliberately being mean.

You don’t care how I feel or who you hurt.

You don’t care about anyone else but yourself.
