Supplementary course Learning Area of Science and Technology
Secondary 4 Semester 2 Time Allocation 20 hours 0.5 credit

The learning area of this course is aimed at assisting students in preparation for admission
assessment exams, IGCSE Cambridge curriculum exams and into higher education and offer the vital
knowledge that is necessary to be successful in their exams and further education at higher levels. The
students are going to learn a wide range of topics in the field of biology. After having studied some of the
basic topics in the first semester, the students are going to learn comparatively advanced topics in the
second semester. The course in the second semester would expand upon some of the topics covered in
the first semester in much more detail than in the first semester. The course aims and encourages learners
to develop a better understanding of the technological world, with an informed interest in scientific matters,
a recognition of the usefulness (and limitations) of scientific method; and an interest in, and care for, the
environment. The course will impart an understanding of the scientific skills essential for both further study
and everyday life. Learners will be able to demonstrate knowledge of scientific phenomena, facts, laws,
               definitions, concepts and theories.
The teaching procedures included in this course focus on the development of a good understanding
of the basics of the subject matter, which will further help the students to understand the much-advanced
topics with relative ease. Students will experience science in its written, speaking, writing and reading,
through a variety of activities. A series of learning activities have been designed to increase the amount of
individual attention. Students will participate in a number of group activities involving an experiment by
using scientific process, critical thinking and an open-minded view. The course also enables students to
develop their thinking towards the 21st century.
The course also enables students to instill the desirable characteristics, including honesty and
integrity; self-discipline; avidity for learning; dedication and commitment to work; public-mindedness; and
               being healthy and well-balanced.
