Introduction
In our Bridge Bug classes we insist on only one thing.
Bridge is a game.
If you are not having fun play a different game!
Over the years we have learnt many things from teaching, which
include, but are not limited to -
i Players, in general, hate being taught something and then a year
later be told that “Oh, we don’t play that any more, we should play
this!”.
i However, what we have seen happening is that as players progress
they change things themselves and that, for the most part, is the
way it should be.
i The system that is being taught must stay in line with current
thinking. This means that tiny changes will be added into the notes
year on year.
i The teaching methods have to change as time goes on. This is self
evident and as teaching aids such as Minibridge and
©
BridgeComposer become available they should be utilised.
i We use all of the methods available to check our work and advice,
including real data analysis.
i It is relatively easy to teach players about bidding. We should do a
little of this.
i It is more difficult to teach players to play a hand well. We should
do more of this.
i The most difficult is to teach players to defend. We should do the
most of this.
i We support this book on our website (www.bridgebug.co.uk) on
which you will find hints from time to time.
i Also we have some bridge videos on YouTube that show you
lessons from a different approach at

search Dave Armstrong + Bridge. More are coming.
