Animals are found in nearly all of Earth's habitats including land, water, and
air. An area where a particular animal naturally lives is called its habitat.

The surrounding in which the animal grows is called its environment.
Animals live by taking is food. They have sensors and a nervous system that

enable them to detect what is happenings around them and respond
            appropriately.

                                                    Body Coverings

Several types of animals have various body coverings. An animal's body
covering helps it to live in a particular habitat.

Let us find out more about the different types of body coverings.

            Scales

Fishes are covered with a layer of flexible,
smooth, and overlapping scales. The bodies

of reptiles (e.g. snake, crocodile, and lizard)
are also covered with scales. Most reptiles
have horny scales that prevent water loss

from their bodies. Snakes shed their skin
periodically, which is then replaced by a Snake Fish

            new one.

                                         Shell

Animals such as snail, tortoise, and turtle are protected
by a shell. When these animals find danger, they

withdraw their head and feet into the shell. Turtle shells
                                         are very hard and tough.
