STRAIGHT/EXTENDING LADDERS
SPECIALIST TECHNICAL SERVICES
● Statistically the most dangerous of ladders to use.
● Must consider all other means of access before using & must be
permitted
● Must wear a harness and clip off to suitable anchor point if it exists
● Should only be used for short durations & light work
● Foot ladder while tying off and untying
● Never use the top two rungs
● When used for access & egress should extend 1 metre beyond
landing platform
● Must be secured properly on both rungs by adequate means (rope or
ratchet straps)
● Never extend extension ladders too much, must have a suitable
overlap.
● Only use fibre glass in live electrical areas.
