2.2. Geotechnical methods:
Geodetic methods and aerial photogrammetric systems cannot provide all the
requirements of the monitoring measurements. Specific measurement
techniques should be utilized to assess the displacement in foundation of large
engineering structures such as dams and also, to ascertain the relative motion
of different layers of soil or even to rock's slope stability studies. In comparison
with conventional surveying methods, the geotechnical instruments are
invaluable to achieve continuous measurements of interior parts of structure.
