reason that knot and I just don’t get along real well. I heard from some
guys north of the border (in Canada) about a knot called the Bob Foran
Knot. You can go online and find instructions for tying it. The guys I talk
to, and the guys who I trust, are becoming bigger and bigger fans of it.”
Steve says he’s had the Uni-to-Uni fail so he’s looking for a replacement,
and the Bob Foran Knot might be it.
“The lines are so good today, and the equipment has become so good,
I think anglers have become so much better than even a generation ago,
in terms of efficiency and effectiveness and overall skill. With catch-and-
release, anglers are catching more and bigger fish. And I think they’re
becoming more effective at landing giant fish, too. Knot failure is not a
thing of the past, but people are much better and better equipped to push
tackle to the limits. Frankly, in freshwater there are very few species that
allow you to push the limits of tackle. Basically, you’re equipped for the
situation. Braided lines are still an issue for some anglers because you
cannot use knots with braids that you’d use with other fishing lines. The
braids are too slippery for knots like the Improved Clinch, the knots will
slip right out. As long as you’re using the right knot for the line, I think
you’ll be in good shape.
“Anglers will benefit from taking the time to practice knot tying—if
you’re watching TV, take the time and practice tying knots. If you really
practice and study the knots, as you work on them, you’ll get there. The
cinching process of a knot makes an absolute, massive difference in its
overall strength.”
