“I live in the North Country (in Minnesota) and we do a lot of fishing at
night and in the winter when your hands are so cold it’s hard to tie a knot,
so I like to use knots I can tie essentially without light—knots that are
easy to tie. The Improved Clinch has been around for many, many years
and millions of anglers use it because it’s strong and effective. But one of
the knots that came out of Knot Wars is called the Fish-N-Fool Knot; it’s
basically a modified Uni Knot. It goes through the hook eye twice and
wraps up. What I like about this knot is that I can tie it with numb hands.
And it did win Knot Wars, I think it was the first year of the competition, as
the strongest knot, beating the Palomar and others. That knot performed
very well on all three types of lines.
