5.2.4 Bracing Terms
Brace
A device used to suppor t, align, or st abilize a joint or bod y segment.
Or thosis
A custom-fitted appliance designed to cor rect or suppor t musculoskelet al function.
Spinal Brace
A brace designed to st abilize or immobilize the spine, often used in scoliosis or post-surgic al recover y.
Knee Brace
A brace used to suppor t the knee joint, commonl y for ligament injur ies or ar thr itis.
Functional Brace
The process of re aligning a fractured or disloc ated bone to its nor mal anatomic al position.
Hinged Brace
A brace with mechanic al joints to facilit ate controlled movement of a limb.
Dynamic Splint
A splint that applies continuous force to improve mobilit y or cor rect defor mit y.
