Seogyo-dong Church began as Missionary Underwood built a villa

evangelized, and worshiped at the villa. Choi Bong-in and his wife
Elder Choi Bong-in came to Seoul from Gangneung at the age of

On July 4th, 1948, Joo Jae-myeong, the first delegated pastor of the
Seogyo-dong Church, was appointed. When Korean War broke out
in 1950, Pastor Joo Jae-myeong refused to evacuate and guarded
the church. He was held at a security office in August of the same
year while holding a worship service every week, and was seized and
martyred in Ganggye Prison. He was 31 years old at that time. The
