Mokwon University was founded in 1954 by an American missionary
Charles D. Stokes under the name of Dajeon Methodist Seminary. It
changed its name to Mokwon University in 1972 and was promoted
Linton Academy to a collegiate university in 1993. It began construction of a new
Seongji Hall (University Chapel) school building in its current location in 1996 and moved in 1999.
“The Daejeon Christian Academy, which was

and passed away in Atlanta at the age of 82 on January 10, 1997.
Hannam University was established by the World

but it was established with the idea that the
establishment of a school in Daejeon could
 attract students from Chungcheong-do and
Gyeongsang-do as well as Honam. The first name
of the school was 'Daejeon Christian Academy',
 Ojeong-Dong Missionary Village
and the first president of the school was Dr.
 William A. Linton.
In 1959, it developed into a regular four-year university and changed its name to
Daejeon College. In 1963, it was merged with Seoul Soongsil University established by
the Northern Presbyterian Church in the United States to become “Sungjeon University”,
but in 1980, it was renamed “Hannam University” by the resolution to separate and
operate it independently from the foundation board. There are still western halls on the
campus, enhancing elegance. To understand the Linton Academy, you need to know
the beginning of Hannam University. Hannam University was established in 1956 by the Mokwon University Chapel
Mission Department of Southern Presbyterian Church in the United States under the name
of Daejeon College. When missionaries related to Hannam University left Korea in the
early 1990s, John Somerville (Seo Eui-pil) set up Linton Academy to commemorate Linton, the
founder of Hannam University. From the outside, it looks like letter “ㄷ” It is a beautiful
building that has a traditional Korean house structure and introduces Western architecture,
such as installing toilets and bathrooms indoors. It was designated as Daejeon City Cultural
Heritage Material No. 44 in 2001. Mokwon University Entrance
