Noticing Me Toolkit: Strengths in Calming

                          Each of us has ways of calming that work best – these are our


                          personal strengths in “uploading calm.”
                          o  The following are some examples of how our brains and bodies are
                             wired to increase calming through these five ways.  (Notably, the
                             sixth way is pharmaceutical / biochemical regulation).  Notice that we
                             might naturally “upload calm” without even being aware of it.

                          o  Find several strategies you use to help yourself feel better, to “upload calm.”

                                                Chatting over coffee
             Being                              Laughing together

                                                Doing a craft
                                                Imagining good things
             Thinking                           Remembering positive experiences

                                                Clearing my mind

                                                Saying positive things inside my head
                                                Running, walking, jumping, skiing
             Moving                             Changing my breathing

                                                Participating in Karate, Tai Chi, Yoga

                                                Sights: clear, colourful, clean, etc.
             Shifting                           Sounds: silence, music, voices, nature
             senses
                                                Touch:  soft, hard, smooth, bumpy

                                                Scents: candles, perfumes
                                                Tastes: spicy, sweet, tangy, sour

                                                Daydreaming
             Stepping back                      Spacing out

                                                Zoning out
