Missing a Word
1. Shulchan Aruch – One who uses a Megilla that is missing a few words may, bedieved,
fulfill his obligation by reciting the words by heart (except for the beginning and the
end).
2. Rashba – If one missed reading even just one word, one does not fulfill one’s
obligation.
3. Mishna Berura – Paskens like the Rashba but adds that one may repeat the word or
verse from a printed Megilla in front of him.
The Purim Se’uda
1. Gemara and Shulchan Aruch – One doesn’t fulfill the obligation at night.
2. Rema – Nevertheless, one should have a bigger meal than usual at night.
3. Rambam – The Purim se’uda should have meat and wine according to one’s ability.
4. Aruch HaShulchan – One should have bread at the se’uda (as opposed to the
Magen Avraham).
5. How much wine to drink
a. Gemara/Shulchan Aruch – One should drink until one cannot distinguish
between baruch Mordechai and arur Haman.
b. Rema – One should drink a little more than usual and go to sleep.
6. Time of the se’uda
a. Rema – It should be eaten after Mincha, and the majority of the meal should be
th
eaten on the 14 .
b. Some Acharonim – Defend the custom to eat the majority of the meal at night.
c. Rema – If Purim falls on Friday, one should eat the se’uda before midday.
