Asia’s favorite quote is by Maya Angelou, “We may encounter many defeats, but we must
not be defeated.” She hopes to one day show her accomplishments as a testament to
never give up, and never be defeated. Asia has been extremely grateful to the Susie B.
White Scholarship for her success as an undergraduate student. She feels honored to
have been chosen as a representative for her church and hopes that she has served as
a positive example for the recipient’s after her. Asia feels the scholarship not only helped
with her financial needs as a collegiate student but challenge her to do her best each
                year.

Her favorite bible verse is Isaiah 40:31, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew
                their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Xavier Hawkins is currently in Hattiesburg, MS attending the University of Southern
Mississippi majoring in marketing and minoring in political science. Recently, completing
an internship with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation in Washington D.C. and
a Forbes Under 30 Scholar. I anticipate graduating in May of 2020.

The scholarship allowed me to focus on education, without the financial burden which can
distort the academic and collegiate experience. In addition, the thoughts and motives
behind starting a scholarship fund for an interconnected community by all family ties, race
and spiritual belief, inspired me along my journey. Not often do we students have this
support if you are a minority from Mississippi. This was an act of not only faith but work
on the behalf of the White Family. I will forever be grateful for such support as a four-year
                experience.
