Design Statement: Bernardon provided design services
for the restoration of the 18th century colonial plantation
Mansion of Revolutionary War activist John Dickinson to
its original 1740 (pre-fire) and 1804 (post fire) appearance.
The main design challenge was to include contemporary
amenities without compromising the historic essence of
the residence.
The Plantation includes the mansion, reconstructed
outbuildings and a slave/tenant house. The three-phase
project includes the interior finish restoration of the
original home with modernization of electrical, life safety room, anterooms, the attic and cellar. A new heating and
and security systems. The second and third phases involved cooling system with humidity control was also implemented
the restoration of the center addition with its large dining for collection preservation.
