NEWARK, DELAWARE
DuPont’s Nutrition and Bioscience Business provides products to the food, beverage,
dietary supplement and pharmaceutical industries. The Newark, Delaware manufacturing
facility manufactures products that include Avicel® PC microcrystalline cellulose. These
products act as a rheology modifier, emulsion stabilizer and thickener and stabilizer. They
are used in many products including sun care and body care applications.
A project was initiated at the Newark site to replace the 900 Packaging Line. The project
objective was to increase capacity, improve quality, increase reliability, improve safety
and allow for future expansion. The new 900 Packaging Line will be capable of packaging
products from multiple manufacturing lines and will also improve the flow of raw materials
and finished products.
The project included replacing and reconfiguring the following equipment:
A Drum Liner Inserter
Box Maker
Liner Sealer
Box Taper
Labeler
Palletizer
Conveyers
A new Drum Accumulation Area was also created. Significant modifications and upgrades to
the building mechanical and electrical infrastructure including HVAC systems, service and
process piping, process control systems and power distribution systems were required to
support the new equipment and program.
DEDC was selected as the lead design firm for the project. We were responsible for leading
the design team as well as completing all mechanical, electrical and structural engineering
and design for the project. We also provided detailed project planning including construction
planning and assistance during construction, commissioning and start up.
The project was completed on time and within the project funding authorization. Due to
careful planning, the project was executed with minimal downtime and disruption to the
business.
