New Packaging
Line
CHERRY HILL, NEW JERSEY
Hikma is one of the twenty (20) largest generic prescription medication providers in
the United States. Hikma develops, manufactures, and markets generic and in-
licensed pharmaceutical products and offers products for various therapeutic
areas, such as analgesic, anti-infective, anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular, CNS,
respiratory, and hormonal in various dosage forms. Hikma also offers solid dose
and injectables contract manufacturing services.
Hikma commissioned a project at their Cherry Hill, New Jersey Facility to install a
finished goods packaging line. DEDC was responsible for engineering and design
to integrate the new packaging line into an operating pharmaceutical
manufacturing facility. The project included the complete demolition of existing
suite and the construction of two (2) finished goods pharmaceutical packaging lines
totaling approximately 6,000 square feet. The project included construction of a
GMP space and packaging equipment consisting of conveyors, packaging robots,
palletizers, labelers, cartoners, track and trace system and tube insertion system.
One of the technical challenges of the project was that the new areas require strict
air cleanliness requirements. Some areas require classification grades between 5
and 8 (per ISO 14644-1) or grades between A and D (per European GMP).
Mechanical and electrical systems included providing power, UPS and lighting, a
new air handler and associated exhaust and supplemental structural equipment
supports. Our design also included pressurization control and particle monitoring.
DEDC provided all engineering and design for the project including conceptual
engineering and design, project and construction strategic planning, construction
cost estimating, completion of drawings for permit and construction.
DEDC also provided assistance during construction including assistance during
start up and commissioning.
