EARLY LIFE

y grandfather was born on 18 September 1960 in Germiston South Africa,

to Scottish-German & German-
Dutch parents. He was youngest of
five children. Interestingly my
Grandfather was born on his eldest
th
brothers 16 birthday. Sharing the same
birthday was possibly the reason why

my grandfather developed a positive
sense of discipline and achievement. His
brother was in the South African Air
Force
and it
was this that impressed my Grandfather so
much and inspired him to rise above all
different circumstances, wanting to achieve in

whatever he was involved in.

Soon after my grandfather turned 9, his

second eldest brother was tragically killed in
an unexplained vehicle accident in December 1969. A
further family disaster was only 3 months and 6 days
after the untimely death of his second eldest brother,
his eldest brother also met with a severely untasteful
end to his life again due to a vehicle accident.

The age between 9 and 10 can be considered as the
worst time of his young life. Not being deterred by

difficult circumstances, my grandfather was
extensively motivated to prove he has a both a strong
mind and soul. He wanted, now more than ever
wanting to rise above the rest. During his earlier
childhood years my grandfather showed great natural
ability in different kinds of sport. He was always eager
to try a new sport, and soon realised if he applied his natural God given talents

and team spirit he would excel to great levels.
