SPORT ACHIVEMENTS DURING EARLY LIFE
At the fresh age of 10, my grandfather had the
opportunity to get exposure in the Eastern Martial
Arts, so he took up the challenge of Judo. Amazingly
and with great
determination he
achieved his Black
Belt and 1 Dan in
st
Judo while only being
a 13-year-old boy.
In 1977, during a Saturday break, my grandfather and a friend were watching a
strange type of ball sport, which was later explained to them as Softball, like
American Baseball. After throwing the ball around with the rest of the players,
the Softball Coach approached my grandfather who was asked to consider
joining the Softball Team with immediate effect.
My grandfather begged his parents’ permission and 6 days later, he received
his Provincial Colours and represented Eastern Transvaal in the South African
Softball Championships a week later.
