Professional Qualifications Framework
Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and Total Unit/Qualification Time
(TUT/TQT)
All the qualifications and units in these programmes sit on the ‘Regulated
Qualifications Framework’ or RQF and are therefore required by UK Government to
meet certain thresholds of both GLH and TUT or TQT in order to be considered to
be an Award, Certificate or Diploma.
GLH is the number of hours where a candidate is being ‘taught’ on the programme,
whereas TUT is the total study time expected to be required on each unit and
includes time spent by the candidate on reading, researching and exploring
principles and their application.
GLH can vary between as little as 17 hours for U510 to as much as 34 hours for
U702. Similarly, TQT stipulates a minimum number of total study hours for the
whole qualification and can be as low as 370 hours for the L6 Diploma or as high
as 420 hours for the Level 7 Diploma. A Level 8 Diploma requires 670 hours and
sits at the doctoral level.
