Spotlight on UC1201

This month’s interview is with Scott Packer, Assistant Manager

When did you start with Loram?

I started 2010 and worked until 2017 when I took a job as a con-
ductor for Union Pacific Railroad. I was rehired in 2019.
What was your first impression when you arrived

          at the machine?
Will I ever be able to learn this?
Can you tell us a little bit about your experiences
the last couple of years at Loram that would be a
good example of what Loram does and who Lo-

          ram is?
Since 2019 I have been able to bring the UC1202 out of the shop in
Hamel and take it to many different customers. The UC1202 is an
Undercutter. We remove all ballast and process the material to
remove the ‘fines’, returning all the clean larger ballast to the track. I’ve shown customers what Loram does and
how we do it, from the daily operations to safety. I listen to the customers wants and give that to them to the best
of my ability. On the undercutters I have been asked to only undercut one side. That would leave the track 8 inches
lower on that side. I have been asked that question a lot.

What is your favorite task on the machine?
Daily operations, working with the customers.

What’s your favorite memory from this past year while working?

Being able to take the undercutter to different customers and demonstrate what it can do.
Define success for you at Loram.

Being able to hear what the customer wants and exceeding that. Making sure the customer is happy with our work.
Do you have any hobbies or hidden talents?

I enjoy camping, fishing, RZR trips with friends.
How do you pass time when you get a day off in the field?

Most of the time on my day off its relaxing. I also like to catch up with what is going on back home.
What’s your favorite way to spend your time off when you’re home?

Riding my RZR. It is a two-seater RZR XP 1000. I like to ride it in the Owyhee mountains/desert in Southern Idaho
          and Eastern Oregon.
Where is your hometown and what is it known for?

Caldwell, Idaho and it known for NOTHING!!! All McDonald’s French fries are made there though!

                                                                                 Continued Page 12
