DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHT
Light Rail Grinder Continued
TIMELINES OF EXECUTION
In October 2021, the Vandhana crew visited the capital of Bangladesh to commission the machines, undertaking their
first commissioning outside India with the help and technical support from Loram USA. The crew managed to suc-
cessfully demonstrate the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) to three different customer representatives within 27 days. In
February 2022, the commissioning certificate was released by the customer.
It is important to note that UIC 60 E1 rails with head hardening were laid on the tracks of the main line for Dhaka
Metro. After many discussions with the stakeholders, we succeeded in making them understand the importance of
removing mill scale, rail surface roughness, surface defects, weld surface defects before the testing and operation
begins for commercial metro runs.
During train testing, the customer discovered defects on the ramp connecting the depot to the main line (see Figure
5). The customer was planning to replace the rails until we introduced them to the more efficient and cost-saving
technology of the rail grinding machine, which can eliminate these defects.
The Vandhana crew (see Fig. 4) visited us in August 2022 with two goals: first, to complete 21 successful grinding
shifts, and second, to remove mill scale from the first phase of the main line, where revenue will begin in December
2022.
