DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHT
From August 21 to September 15, 2022, LRG-33 was used to remove mill scale on the southern (12 km) and north-
ern (12 km) main lines of the Dhaka metro, for a total length of approximately 24 km. Over the specified length of
24 km, 47 MiniProf observations (left and right separately) were recorded at various locations. LRG-33 operated at a
normal and sustained grinding speed of 9 km/h on the Dhaka Metro track, using a UIC 60E1 profile and with the rail
surface hardened to BHN 350 to 390.
The machine achieved an average depth of cut, measured at the rail head center, of 0.077 mm (W1) for the south-
bound and northbound mainline, well within the tolerance range of 0.04 mm to 0.1 mm. The profile of the ground
rail section was not deformed in any way during grinding to remove mill scale.
The team successfully completed both objectives and the removal of the burn damage on the ramp, which has in-
creased the customer's confidence in the grinding applications.
