4. CVQ and TVET Integration – There continues to be a strong push to have our students
registered to sit CVQ examinations. Training in CBET Methodology as well as Assessment are
ongoing for teachers and these are done through the HEART Trust/NTA. HEART Trust/NTA
will continue to assist with the monitoring of teachers to ensure that the students are being
properly prepared for the CVQ. Training for Floral Arrangement, Fashion Designing and
Printing and Computer Graphics have been added to the list of programmes being offered. It is
expected that the number of students to sit this examination will increase for 2018.
TVET Integration is being implemented at all levels of the education system. This is being
done through the infusion of concepts and principles as a part of the new curriculum being
developed, through the increase in the number of programmes being offered in schools as well
as the addition of new schools offering TVET subjects. It is expected that within a few years it
will be fully accepted and integrated in our school system. The TVET Integration Model is
being used to guide the integration process taking place in schools.
5. Initiatives to Improve Performance in Schools – Professional development activities are
planned for Heads of Department and teachers to ensure continued improvement in the students’
performance. Students will also engaged in day camps which will provide examination practice.
Operation Turnaround is an initiative designed to assist the schools performing below the
accepted levels.
6. Other Activities
The Ministry is very concerned at this time about the general support being received from CXC and
the level of communication. This year would have seen many issues as outlined below which must
be addressed for some level of comfort as we move forward.
1. The timeliness of communication regarding changes.
CXC has indicated that all students should be using AUTOCAD come 2018 but this is of grave
concern as the schools are not all ready. The infrastructure is not in place, notwithstanding the
free software online, there is the matter of incompatibility with the schools. Further, given the
number of students that do Technical Drawing, enough computers would not be available to
facilitate all the students doing the examination. There will definitely be some challenges
