                                     I have received orders from. India to proceed to Babroin with vessels of Royal
                                 Navy and gunboats, and call on Chief now in possession of island to account
                                 for breach of maritime truce and attack on Chief placed in power by British
                                 Government. I am to beg you to inform tho Persian Govornmont accordingly.

                                     I am instructed by Her Majesty’s Indian Govornmont to call on you to
                                 acoount forthe signal breach of tho maritimo trace recently porpotrated on
                                 tho Island of Bahrein, "and in which aot of piracy tho Chief, Shaik Alco bin
                                 Khalifoh, was killed, tho town of Monameh plundered, and numerous British
                                 subjects, togothcr with thoso of Shaik Alco bin Khalifeh, grievously injured
                                 or ruined.
                                     If any, or all, of you bo desirous of coming on board, safe conduot will
                                 bo afforded you to aud from the ship to the shoro.
                                     As a precautionary mcasuro, I warn you to clear out all women, children,
                                 and other non-combatants from any and all of your forts, whothor in Monameh
                                 or Moharrag, and also from the neighbourhood of thoso forts, whothor that
                                 neighbourhood be in the form of town or suburb ; and it* is noccssnry you
                                 should do all this within 2A hours from tho time of my messongor delivering
                                 this letter at tho gate of your fort in Monamoh.
                                     I trust that your own good sense and knowledge of tho British Govorn- •
                                 ment may forthwith lead you so to act that it may not bo necessary to ^resort
                                 to force.
                                     But should this unhappily not provo tho ease, tho sonior officer of Her
                                 Majesty's vessels now present, and of thoso now on tho way to Bahrein, will
                                 take such moosuros as to him may soom proper to carry into ofToct tho instruc­
                                 tions of tho British Govornmont.
                                     Ponding further communications, I would bog you ’ to notify publioly in
                                 the town that no boat or other craft is to move from its present position;
                                 should it do so, itr will bo at its own risk. In like manner, pending furthor
                                 communications, no ycssoI of whatovor dosoription should attompt to ontor tho
                                 harbour of Bahrein unless at its own risk.
