3. There Is said lo lc considerable unwillingness to
strike among the villagers, who are beginning the date harvest,
and there is some evidence that the Committee have embarked on
this latest manoeuvre to show results to their supporters and to
make sure of claiming credit for lielgraveh going. I think that the
announcement of June 9 about Smith did serve to indicate to them,
if not to the general public, that something was in the wind
regarding Belgrave but the latter's own statements since then,
that he was not leaving, have not surprisingly cast doubt into
their minds.
