IChurshodji. Wo nro obliged to you for looking after him. Jt would be
hotter to let him live with the Postmaster, as that will give him company, nnd
it will bo cheaper also ; ns lievcrend Zweimer is coming shortly what is the good
of being undor his obligation particularly when ho is coming soon with his wife.
Don't think by his living there ho will bo spoilt by Muhammad Ismail or
Postmastor. Whonovor ho wants auy money, please givo him some out of our
accounts.
Be your letter of 1st Rabi-ul-Awal in English and Persia.
About concession from tho Sheikh. Wo noto that Ilaji Uosscin Kussab’s
guns are released. From what wo hear somo say ho paid 8 per cent., some say
12 per cent., and some say 25 per cent., and it was dono through tho intervention
of Sheikh’s brother in whoso servant’s house theso wero found. Sheikh’s
brother had somo bribe and ho arranged it for him. As to tho Shoikh’s
concession you better tell him tho wholo truth, which you ought to have
dono before, although we think ho knows all about it; ho Birnply pretends.
You must after tolling him all tho facts explain to him that, if ho breaks tho
concession, ho aud you both make yourselves liable to damages for loss of profit,
and at tho same time both ho and you will bo disgraced in tho eyes of tho
Consul as wo are bound to complain to him if ho breaks the contract. This
you must tell him personally or through Abdur Rahman, Yazior. We know
i for a fact that both Malcolm aud Livingstone, Muir & Co., are trying, tho former
through the Customs Master, and tho latter through Asoo Banian. They have
asked us to talco them as partners in the affair and wo havo aslcod thorn to lot us
know their proposal for tho prosont. You bettor act vory cautiously, but at tho
same time be firm, and, if necessary, oiler Abdur Rahman something that will
induce him in advising tho Sheikh not to act dishonourably and break an Arab’s
word and fame and name. Wo havo not shown tho papor to anyone, but will
bo compelled to do so if ho break it. You bettor ask him to wait till our
Mr. Fracis comes by the next mails of 5th Soptombor next. No more time
for tho post.
