                 (a)  what is tho exact amount of tho Consular allowanco which Mr
                       Gaskin will loso by going to Bahrein; aud
                 (b)  what sum, if any, he will havo to pay as house-rent at Bahrein.

                In roply to your No. 001-E.A. of tho 5th March 1900, I bavo the honour
            to say that tho pay of Mr. Gaskin’s Munski will bo mot from savings in my
           budget allotment- for the current year, if possible, but, as I have already to
           make certain ^appropriations, it is difficult, at presont, to state for certain if it
           will bo possible to do so.
               Mr. Gaskin will loso £30, i.c., about RtoO per aunurn (or R37-G-0 per
           monsom) by being away from Bushiro. I understand that he will havo to  pay
           R«l0 per mousom as bouso-ront at Bahrein.

               In accordance with tlio instructions convoyed to me iu the Foreign Depart­
            ment tologram, dated tho 2nd February 1900, I havo the honour to inform tho
            Government of India that I doputed Mr. J. C. Gaskin, my Extra Assistant to
            take oharge of tho Assistant Political Agency at Bahrein, temporarily, from
            the dato of tho death of AgliR, Muhammad Rahecru Satfar, late Residency
            Agent at Bahrein, which occurred ou tho 9th Fobruary last.      J
                2. Mr. J. C. Gaskin assumed charge of his duties on tho 10th Fobruary
            1900 in tho forenoon. I would therefore requost that tho Comptroller of India
            Treasuries may bo informed accordingly.
