*1 have the honour to invite a reference to iir. Ache eon' o
letter «o.P. 164-«/29, dated 18th June 1929, regarding the
retention of the services of Mr. C.do Grenier, Birector of
Customs, Bahrain, it wae therein otateu tnat the Government
of mdia proposed to await the Rcsidentis views on the general
question of the ’’westernisation" of Banrain before deciding on
the particular question of the retention of Mr. do Grenier's
services. These views have since been communicated to the
Government of India by my predecessor, and they in turn have
communicated their views to n.Jd.'3 Secretary of State ivide
telegram no.345U-b, dateu 26th November i92vj.
Mr.de Grenier proposes to proceed on leave in April
next, and is naturally anxious^ to xnow whether he is to return
or not. 1 woulu therefore request that the Government of
India may be pleased to pass orders in the matter.

Government of India the impressions tnat 1 gained during uiy
