Shaikh Khalifah "bln Muhummad A1 Khalifah,
Director of Police und Public Security in Bahrain
and first cousin of the Kuler, is at prooent in
tho London Clinic and is, I am told, quite
ooriously ill. Ho had a heart attack in Bahrain
recently, and in addition he is suffering from
asthma and will probably have to undergo an
operation for gall-bladder.
2. The Secretary of State has not, I believe,
met Shaikh Khalifah, but in view of his position
in Bahrain and his relationship to the Ruler - he
is indeed a possible successor - I recommend that
a letter conveying the Secretary of State’s best
wishes for his recovery bo sent to him. I submit
a draft. If it is considered that the Secretary
of State should not himself sign tho letter,
perhaps it could go from Al^e Private Secretary.
