                                         from tho Residency Agent, Bahrain, trans­
                 No. 76, dated 14th May 1800.
                                         mitting n note received by tho Chiof of
           Rah rain from a friend of hia at El-Uassa, intimating that it is tho intention
           of tho Turkish Qovornment to establish a coal depOt at Bahrain, and to instruct
           Shaikh Jasim-bin-Thani of El-Katr to rebuild Odeyd and Zobara.

           Translation of a lettor from tho Rosidonoy Agent, Bahrain, to the Political Resident in tho
                          Persian Gulf, No. 75, dated thu l4lh May 1800.
               After compliments.—I liavo tho honour to report that Shaikh Esa, tho Ohief
           of Bahrain, sont to mo a postscript datod 20th Ramazan 1307«=I0th May 1890,
           received by him from a friond of his at El-Haase, desiring mo to transmit tho
           snmo for your information, and accordingly I forward the snmo herewith (iii
           copy).
              The purport of tho postscript is as follows
               Tho Mutnsorrif of El-Uassa has made known that ho has received an order
           from tho Porto to tho olfoct that tho Turkish Government want a placo at
           Bahrain for storing coal thoro for tho uso of tho Turkish stcamors which will ho
           sent out this sido, and that thoy Intend to issue instructions to Shaikh Jasim to
           robuild Odeyd and Zobara.


                    Translation of llio postscript referred to, dated tho 17th May 1800.
               Our Mutnsorrif of El-Uassa has received orders from Constantinople to tho
           cffcot that tho Turkish Government requiro a building at Bahrain for storing
           coal for tho uso of tho Turkish stcamors which will bo sent out from Constan­
           tinople to this sido, and that thoy iutend instructing Jasim to robuild Odoyd
           and Zobara.

           Turkish authorities contomplato rebuilding tho town of Zobara situated on tho
           Katr Promontory, opposite the Bahrain islauds, and also taking stops towards
           tho occupation of El-Odoyd.
               2. In ncoordanoo with tho instructions whioh I liavo from timo to timo
           rccoivcd, I should consider it my duty to protest against either of thaso
           measures being adopted, and to provent their oxcculion ponding furthor ordors
           Bom tho Government of India.
