NURSING AT MICHIGAN EXCELLENCE AWARDS

ONCE AGAIN OUR AWARD WINNING NURSES EXCEED EXPECTATIONS

University of Michigan Health is very fortunate to have exceptional nurses. We were grateful to have the
ability to honor some of those nurses with the third annual Nursing Excellence Awards.
The program included ten awards that recognized our nurses for exemplary care, compassion, and
dedication to the profession and two awards that honored an outstanding Allied Health Partner and
Physician Partner. Award recipients were chosen by an independent selection committee, based on
evidence provided that fulfilled specified nomination criteria. The stories shared about these amazing staff
members showed how committed they are to their professions and the care of patients and families.
Our 2023 award winners:
Each recipient was awarded, during
Excellence in Clinical Nursing in care of the Adult -- Michael Berry national Nurses Week in May, with a
Excellence in Clinical Nursing in the care of Children and Women’s surprise ceremony on their unit with a
Health --Candace Harmer personalized glass award, nomination
pin, and bouquet of flowers-- to be
Ryan Keating Preceptor Excellence --Kara Ayotte followed up later by a cash award and
customized scrub jacket or lab coat.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Excellence -- Julie Hanley These short ceremonies were recorded

Excellence in Education -- Ashley Pitts and compiled to be viewed online by
the public.
Outstanding Allied Health Partner- Allyse Marcus
This event culminated at an awards
Excellence in Leadership - Administration --David MacIntyre banquet held at Webers Hotel and
Conference Center. It was a beautiful
Excellence in Research and Innovation- Michelle Stanley event that included the award
recipient, a guest of their choosing and
Excellence in Leadership - Clinical -- Amy Allen
a leader from their area of practice.
Novice Nurse Excellence -- Claudia Horner We are grateful for some generous
Team/Unit Excellence -- 12 West Mott donors that have helped support this
program to recognize some incredible
Outstanding Physician Partner- Robert Hyzy, MD staff!
