DAISY AWARDS HONOR THE “HEALER’S TOUCH”
RECOGNIZING OUR EXTRAORDINARY NURSES WITH THE DAISY AWARD

Since January 2007, we have been honoring our nurses with the DAISY Award-- a national program
designed to recognize extraordinary nurses that demonstrate kindness surpassing most, with a focus on
patient and family-centered care. At the close of FY23, we have awarded a grand total of 177 University of
Michigan Health RNs with this extraordinary honor since the program’s inception. To a nurse, the DAISY
nomination is the highest form of recognition and our DAISY honorees continue to be nominated by only
the University of Michigan Health patients or a patient’s family member. Our process assures that the
selected nurses have clearly demonstrated the qualities specified for the award: excellent clinical skills,
compassionate care, exemplary service and continued commitment to excellence.

In April of 2023 our DAISY Coordinator, Gayle York, participated in a DAISY sponsored Michigan
Roundtable of DAISY best-practices and was asked to share our program at University of Michigan Health
with other DAISY Michigan Hospitals.

For FY23, our patients and families nominated a record number of UM nurses, totaling 1692! This feat
clearly demonstrates that our exceptional nurses continue to make lifelong impressions on our patients
and families!
