44 Nurse & PA Recruitment and Retention Annual Report FY23
NEW HIRES: 2 YEARS FROM NOW
ANTICIPATING NEEDS OF THE NURSING DEPARTMENTS
Retention strategies should be an important focus in FY24 as we aim to retain our record number of
new hires in FY23. As an organization we must continue to focus on nurse retention in the first year
with intervention programs and strategies aimed at keeping our highly skilled nurses at the University of
Michigan Health.
FY23 had an increase in the percentage of new hires planning to stay working on their current unit, rising
from 30.99% to 36.33%. However, even better news is that the FY23 new hires plan to stay at Michigan,
whether they decide to stay on their current unit or transfer to another unit, compared to the FY22 new
hires. This is something we can build on as we enter a new fiscal year.
