ACTIVITY 10 Building Greater Sentences
Combine these short sentences into one sentence. You can add new words and move words around,
but you should not add or omit any ideas. More than one answer is possible, but all of these sentences
require adjective clauses.
1. a. There are about 5,000 stars that people can see from Earth.
b. They can only see very bright stars without a telescope.
c. Almost all of these stars are brighter than the sun.
2. a. ACL injuries are injuries to the knee.
b. These injuries can end an athlete’s career.
c. These injuries happen twice as often to female athletes as to male athletes.
3. a. Nelson Mandela became South Africa’s first black president.
b. Nelson Mandela died in 2013.
c. Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison before he became the president.
