             1. More and more people are suffering from allergies these days nutritionists
are recommending that they eat more foods that are high in vitamins C, D, and

              E. These particular vitamins help to strengthen the immune system they can

also help to make sneezing, coughing, and itchy eyes less serious. There are also

medications that help reduce allergy symptoms. But these medications tend to
              make people feel drowsy. (3)

             2. Almost all birds find mates they stay with them for life. This sounds very

romantic birds probably do not stay with their mates because they are in love.
Zoologists believe birds such as geese stay together because it is easier to survive.

Instead of spending time fighting with other birds, they can spend that time taking

care of their young. It is a very dangerous world for baby birds. So having two
parents taking care of the babies means they are more likely to survive. (3)

             3. Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city in Peru that was made a UNESCO

World Heritage site in 1983. Most archeologists believe that the Incas built Machu
Picchu as a place for an Incan emperor in the fifteenth century. But no one is

absolutely certain. It is on a flat area on the top of a 7,970-foot mountain it was very

difficult to get to. When the Spanish came to colonize Peru in the sixteenth century,
the Incas abandoned Machu Picchu. The Spanish destroyed many other beautiful sites

they never found Machu Picchu Machu Picchu was left untouched. Machu Picchu

remained untouched until 1911, when an American historian “discovered” it. (4)

             4. Lighthouses keep ships from crashing into rocks they help to guide ships
through dangerous waters or into harbors. They are usually in remote locations far

away from cities where there are not many lights at night they are also near harbors

to show ship captains how to get into the harbors. Traditionally, lighthouses have
been very tall, narrow, circular towers with a revolving light on the top. In the past,

people needed to live in the lighthouses to turn the lights on and to check that

everything was working correctly. Now everything is automated it is not necessary

for people to live in lighthouses anymore. (3)
