Waiwarna was a musical and a motivational programme organized by the Rotaract Club of University
of Peradeniya in order to enhance the knowledge of the students of our university on music, drama
and other aesthetic avenues and to give those with hidden aesthetic talents the encouragement to
kickstart their unconventional careers on music and other adjoining aesthetic sectors, via the
presence of distinguished artists in the Sri Lankan entertainment industry.
This successful event was conducted in 3 phases. Phase
1 was conducted in relation to music where three of our
renowned Sri Lankan artists Ravi Royster, Dinesh
Gamage and Dumal Warnakulasuriya were invited as
keynote speakers, where the attendees were given an
insight into their past experience and obstacles they had
to face and overcome to rise to prominence in the
industry.
Phase 2 explored music on a deeper level, where mainly
the topic of music production was discussed by two of
our own gifted talents at the university, Hasitha
Chandimal and Vishwa Abeywardana.
Phase 3 was mainly focused on the skill of acting and theatrical skills rather than music. In
accordance to the needs of this phase, three of our own renowned artists in the acting industry
Rodney Warnakula, Thumindu Dodantenna and Madani Malwattage were invited to speak on their
disparate pathways of struggles and barriers they had to overcome to become successful media
personalities.
The main focus of this project was to impart knowledge on different sectors of the Sri Lankan
entertainment industry to our students by providing a deeper insight into the industry through the
eyes of our renowned artists such as Dinesh Gamage, Madani Malwattage and to provide them with
insightful tips on the aspect of music production.
This extremely successful event was also targeted towards motivating our students with concealed
aesthetic talents to initiate their own career pathways and become a role model to other fledgelings
in the industry.
