The owl feathers were packed away with the eagle
feather for the rest of the journey. They would see lots of
mountains that day. A west wind blew them fast over the
snowy mountains, with both girls hanging on tight and
looking down at the valleys and rivers. They arrived in
Calgary around dinner time, and had a warm welcome
from cousin Claire and her family.
Now, what would they have for dinner, wondered the
girls, who were starving. Claire's mum Shari was a good
cook, it turned out. There was roast chicken, sweet
potatoes, green beans, and raspberry pie with ice cream.
Perfect. The three girls played in the back yard until dark,
with Claire's older sister Sarah joining them for a game of
hide and seek. They all slept in the same room and told
scary stories until they fell asleep.
