Mirabel told them about her great grandmother, who
was born so long ago. The family said that their name
was Hill too, and that they must be cousins. There seem
to be cousins everywhere, thought Mirabel. Just then,
Twinkle pulled the eagle feather out of her pocket and
stuck it in her hair. Was there some magic involved in
this journey?
The Hills gave them sandwiches and apples to take.
Goodbye to the Hills and their red roofs. Up and away
over the prairies. They seemed to go on forever, these
prairies, where Canadian wheat and soybeans grow. They
could see the sky all around them, with no buildings or
mountains in sight.
