Chapter 3
Up, up and away they sailed, over prairies and farms,
gentle hills and streams. Before long, they were hungry
and started looking for a landing spot. Down below,
there was a pretty farm with red roofs where they
decided to land. They had just climbed down from the
basket, when out of the house ran a boy and girl who
were all excited to see the balloon. They invited the girls
in for lunch. The family was just sitting down to a huge
platter of sandwiches and a jug of apple cider from their
own apple trees. The girls told them about their journey
so far.
The children's eyes were wide, not able to believe that
these girls had travelled so far without their parents. That
reminded Mirabel to phone home, to say hi and to let her
mum and dad know where she was. She asked the family,
"Where are we?" The parents said that they were just
outside of Wapella!
