Chapter 3
The plane seemed to be losing altitude. Everyone's
ears popped. Just then the voice on the intercom said,
"This is Captain Renard speaking. We are making an
unexpected stop in Saskatchewan on account of smoke
in the air over Alberta. We need to wait until the wind
changes direction." Over golden fields and shining pools,
the plane eased down onto a landing strip.
As they all went down the stairs from the plane, the
sun felt warm. Since they were travelling west, it would
get earlier and so, longer until sunset.
Off to the south, there was a mass of moving white
feathers, white and black wings, orange beaks.
"Are those the pelicans that come north for the
summer?" asked Grampa.
Captain Gallina told them that these white pelicans
come north every spring to mate and raise their young.
