Barry, the co-pilot, had big round glasses and the

blackest eyes. Gallina said that she had heard about the

balloon voyage across the country and that she would

have loved to do that. She asked them where they slept,

and they told her that they camped all the way except for

a visit to a Calgary cousin. They talked for a little while,

but the pilot needed to keep her eyes on the instrument

panel and the skies.

Back in their seats, Mirabel and Twinkle tried to

figure out who Gallina Renard was. You know how

something is sitting in your brain, just out of reach?

Maybe in a locked little drawer? That's what it felt like.
