• Movement is limited by the structure of the
endoskeletons and body types of the different classes of
echinoderm.
• With the tail free of digestive organs, the muscles along
each side can move the tail back and forth with powerful
motions
• Invertebrate chordates have notochords, not the
backbones (wertebrae) of the chordates.
• The water vascular system functions in locomotion,
excretion, circulation, and respiration.
• The only chordate feature that is present in both the adult
tunicate and adult lancelet is pharyngeal gill slits.
(Reproduction and digestion are not functions of the
water vascular system).

• Sea lilies and feather stars arms and tube feet wave
passively in the water currents, catching suspended
